Student Teacher Blues

So, my assistant principal called me in February and asked if I would be interested in having a student teacher teach two of my periods. I thought to myself for about 2 seconds and said absolutely. Are you kidding me, I get to sit down for two hours a day and watch my students learn from someone else while I can get on the internet and catch up with my celebs, email and my blog. (Which is what I am doing right now at 11:15) That sounds AWESOME!

Wow, was I wrong. It sucks. My friend Angie told me that she had a problem giving up power with her student teacher. I thought that there was no way that that was going to be the case, which again I was wrong.

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. He does things very different than I do. My students have had me for half of a school year and so are used to the way I teach and explain things. I have a very good relationship with my students so they are looking at me wondering what the heck he is doing. He often times gets stuck with questions the students have and I feel that he doesn't prepare himself each lesson. So, I am sitting here cringing right now at the lesson he is teaching and waiting for him to finish so that I can go and repair the damages. My advice to all of you who teach is DON'T EVER AGREE TO GET A STUDENT TEACHER.

I have to go, he is finally done. Thank you for letting me vent. I am sure my mom and dad and Kim are tired of it.

Oh, Kelly- I am feeling your blues. I know what you are talking about. Doesn't it kill you that he's not prepared for the lessons- really would you ever step into your own classroom or even worse someone else's classroom not prepared!!

Are you allowed? Maybe it would be more painless that way;-)

I agree with Kelsey! I'd leave or get so sucked into TMZ or blogs that you don't even hear him:)

I thought the idea of a student teacher is that he needs to learn from someone. Who's going to teach the new teachers if we don't??? Problem is that they send people who probably shouldn't be there in the first place. Just thinking out loud!

Kelly,
You are too funny! Can you step in and have a little chat with him? It must be frustrating just sitting there and listening to it!

Kelly, read a book and look up occasionally to look like you are aware of what is going on. The kids will learn and you'll get a book read! Cheers.

It's very frustrating to have a student teacher! Hang in there. It'll be over soon, and then you'll miss the free time. : )
