Back to work=BOO! Start of baseball season=YEAH!

Well, after a wonderful week off, I am unfortunately back to work. I know those of you who are not teachers don't feel sorry for us but it is always so hard to go back. On top of having to go back, our school is getting accredited Monday- Wednesday. That basically means I have people coming into my classroom watching me teach at any point in the day and we have to sit through meetings. I had an hour and a half meeting this morning before school and a half hour meeting at lunch. You would think that they would have at least waited until tomorrow to start this, but that would be too logical.
On a happier note, it is the first day of baseball season. I always love this time of the year. I get to watch my beloved Dodgers play just about every day for the next 7 months. I was so bummed that I couldn't go to opening day today. I have not been able to go the last 8 years because of coaching softball. The first year I don't coach and have the opportunity to go, we are getting accredited and can't take the day off. Of course! I did tivo the game and made everybody promise to not tell me what happened. (Total Don move) When I got home, I had a beer and some peanuts/pistachios to get the full effect of the first game of the season. I had to be there in spirit. They won. If the season ended right now, the Dodgers would be in first place. Yeah!

Day 1 of babysitting!

Trevor and TT riding on the space shuttle at the park.

As most of you know, Kim and Don have decided to take a couple of days vacation to relax and reconnect. Meanwhile, I am here at their house slaving away and taking care of their kids and I LOVE IT. We had a great first day. After I picked up Trevor from school, we went to the park and met Jeana, Ruby and Abby. The kids had a great time. They have been great ever since. Dinner, baths and Barney. What is better than that? Much to Kim and Don's sadness, they have not asked about them once. I am sure that will change in the morning when they are wondering where their mommy and daddy are.

Trevor goes to school tomorrow so I thought that I would take TT somewhere fun. Jeana told me about a childrens museum in La Habra. I feel that I always take Trevor places because he is older, but tomorrow is me and TT.

First Day of Spring Break!

Kim and I enjoying our first day of spring break!

Today was our official first day of spring break and it couldn't have been any better. Kim and her kids came over to my house so that Don could sleep a little. We then went over to my Grandma Youngs new house in Long Beach. She has recently moved from Palm Desert to Long Beach. It is a great change for all of us because we get to see her more often and Trevor and TT get to know their great grandma. She has a great place with a great view. I thought about asking her if I could move in.

When it was time for naps, we took the kids home and I went to the store. It was such a beautiful day out we thought that while the kids were sleeping, we would go sit in the sun, read our books and drink a few Coronas. We had about 15 minutes of peacefulness until TT decided that her 15 minute nap was enough for her. She put on her bathing suit and played in the pool so we could continue what we were doing.

We really did have a wonderful day until we had to take TT to urgent care after dinner because Kim thought she had croupe again. NO, it was just a cough. She is completely fine.

Student Teacher Blues

So, my assistant principal called me in February and asked if I would be interested in having a student teacher teach two of my periods. I thought to myself for about 2 seconds and said absolutely. Are you kidding me, I get to sit down for two hours a day and watch my students learn from someone else while I can get on the internet and catch up with my celebs, email and my blog. (Which is what I am doing right now at 11:15) That sounds AWESOME!

Wow, was I wrong. It sucks. My friend Angie told me that she had a problem giving up power with her student teacher. I thought that there was no way that that was going to be the case, which again I was wrong.

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. He does things very different than I do. My students have had me for half of a school year and so are used to the way I teach and explain things. I have a very good relationship with my students so they are looking at me wondering what the heck he is doing. He often times gets stuck with questions the students have and I feel that he doesn't prepare himself each lesson. So, I am sitting here cringing right now at the lesson he is teaching and waiting for him to finish so that I can go and repair the damages. My advice to all of you who teach is DON'T EVER AGREE TO GET A STUDENT TEACHER.

I have to go, he is finally done. Thank you for letting me vent. I am sure my mom and dad and Kim are tired of it.

Baby Addison Ireland Marie Sullivan

Great Grandma with Addison

Baby Addison (the picture doesn't do her justice)

Our cousin Kevin and his girlfriend Sara had a baby last Friday. We decided to go and meet the new addition to our family last night. As you can see, she is adorable. I can't remember Trevor and Taylor being so little. It seems like so long ago.

Those of you who know Kevin are probably amazed that he is a dad. When he first told us, we thought that it was a joke. Kevin, a dad!! It took all of us a while to take it in. In our few hours of visiting last night, he seems to be a great dad. Sara tells us that Kevin has changed most of the diapers and is helping with middle of the night feedings. What? Are you talking about our Kevin? So far, Addison is a great baby sleeping most of the time. Kim and Don told them to enjoy it while it lasts. Way to burst their bubble Kim.

Weekend with Kim and the kids!

Well, as you know I was kicked out of my parents house for five days because she had company sleeping in my room. I stayed with my sister Wednesday to Sunday.
On Thursday night, Anthony, his cousin, Jeana and I went to see the Foo Fighters concert. We had such a great time but I didn't get to Kim's and in to my fouton until 2:00am. Four hours later, I was up for work. I was extremely tired all day on Friday but the concert was well worth it. On Friday night, Jeana and her kids came over to Kim's to have the kids play. Kim and I were in bed and asleep by 10:00 both nights. I can't remember the last time that I was asleep by 10:00 on a Friday and Saturday night.
You can read exactly how the rest of the weekend went on Kim's blog. I will give you the short version. We were constantly getting ready for the next event with the kids. All of you know that I am around Kim and the kids all the time, probably a little too much. But, being with them all weekend made me appreciate what you moms do on a daily basis. It was absolutely exhausting. They are constantly on the go except when sleeping.
Coming home last night was definitely bitter sweet. I was very happy to sleep in my own bed but was so sad not to see Trevor and Taylor this morning before I went to work. I missed Trevor's "good morning hug" and TT sitting in her highchair yelling, "Auntie Kelly, Hiiiiiiii!" Although I complain, I did have a great weekend. It wasn't my typical weekend of going out with friends, but it was fun. Thanks Kim, Don, Trevor and TT for putting up with me those five days.

Longest Day EVER!!

I know, I know. Those of you with kids are going to laugh at me and think that I have no idea what a long day is, but I really did. First off, I woke up this morning with a horrible sore throat and cough. After loading up on Advil and Dayquil, I left my house at 7:00 for work. After a long day of teaching math, I had to go straight to a meeting at the district office for two hours. From there, I went to a staff basketball game back at Mayfair. We had a fundraiser tonight where the staff played the students in a basketball game. I was asked to play in the game and laughed at the student. I was then told that I was going to coach the staff. It ended up being a great night. Kim brought Trevor and he had a blast. Kim got out of having to stay the entire game because she has kids. I think that I may have kids only for the things that I can get out of. So, it is now 9:30 and I just got home. Not really home. Did I mention that I got kicked out of my house because my moms cousin and her kids are in town? So, to top my day off, I am sleeping on a fouton at Kim's house. The good news is that I get to wake up to the kids in the morning. Now that you have read about my day, do all of you moms feel sorry for me yet?

Jessica's Bachelorette Party!

Jeanette, me and Jess at the Briar Rose Winery.

Jeanette, Lori, Jessica, Jeana, me and Danielle wine tasting at Wilson Creek Winery.

Jessica, Jeana and me wine tasting in Temecula.
This weekend was my friend Jessica's bachelorette party. Jessica is a great friend of mine who I went to school with and worked with at Ecco's. She is also Jeana's sister. For her bachelorette party, she wanted to relax and drink wine, which was great for me. Nowhere is more perfect to do that than Temecula.
I took one period off from work so that we could leave at a decent time on Friday and miss some traffic. On Friday night, we went to dinner at this great place in Old Town Temecula. After dinner, we went to a little bar that had live music and danced the night away. We had originally planned on going home early because wine tasting was the next day, however, the cab came and picked us up at 1:00 am.
On Saturday morning, the bus came and picked us up at 10:45 for our day of wine tasting. We went to four wineries and didn't get home until 5:00. All four wineries were beautiful and we got to taste some very good wines. It was a long day after an even longer night and needless to say, we were in bed fairly early that night.
We all had such a wonderful time and were thankful that we could spend this special weekend with our good friend Jess.
